Three Steps to Consistently Whiter Teeth

We are taught to believe that teeth whitening will harm the health of your teeth. So, if you are struggling with the choice of healthy teeth or whiter teeth you can rejoice.

Your teeth can be healthier and whiter. They should correlate and not be mutually exclusive.

Firstly, you need healthy teeth to whiten them. So, it’s time to prime them to optimum health before you whiten. See my article “stop your teeth from decaying right now”.

See your dentist about getting a professional whitening kit and to ensure healthy and appropriate conditions for safe teeth whitening.

This is how I whiten my teeth.

  • Step 1: I use a remineralizing toothpaste for a week before starting your teeth whitening. This hardens the enamel and reduces sensitivity.
  • Step 2: Use a professional concentration level whitening gel. The SLOW (gradual a consistent daily use for one to two weeks) and LOW (lower concentrations used for a longer time gives a longer lasting effect).
  • Step 3: Brush thoroughly after teeth whitening, then I smear a white-coloured toothpaste on my teeth and leave it overnight.

The takeaway biohack here is this: when you whiten your teeth, there is a film that forms on your teeth. This film is called the biofilm and it is transparent. This biofilm stabilised and sets on the tooth surface after 24 hours. If you stain this biofilm before it sets, the stain is harder to remove. Then, imagine if you expose the biofilm with a brighter, whiter material, you will “stain” the film a lighter colour! It works.
